Respiratory season is upon us! Did you know you can take steps to protect yourself and your family?

Child getting a vaccine

RSV Vaccine for Infants  *NEW* :

There has been growing concern regarding respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in recent years – and there is finally a vaccine available for infants.

Babies born during the 2024-2025 RSV season (typically November to April) can be immunized in hospital at birth.

Babies born in 2024 before the RSV season, and who are under one year of age can be immunized by their primary health care provider.

This is covered by Ontario, and immunizations are available through birthing hospitals, family physicians, Ottawa Public Health and community immunization programs like Vaccinate and Up-to-Date.

For more information about RSV and other Infant Immunizations, visit:

RSV Vaccine for Adults:

There are now RSV vaccines available to older adults and is indicated for adults aged 60 and over, or adults aged 50-59 at increased risk for lower respiratory tract disease. In very limited cases, (such as long-term care residents and retirement homes,) these are publicly funded. However, most adults would access the RSV vaccine privately. These can be purchased and administered at ActiveCare Beaverbrook location, or at a pharmacy with a valid prescription.

Pneumococcal Vaccine:

Children aged 2 months to 4 years will routinely receive their pneumococcal

vaccinations with their typical well baby / well child visit – they will receive the

Vaxneuvance Pneu-C-15 vaccine (previously Prevnar-13 was given).

Adults aged 65 and over are eligible for the publicly funded Pneu-C-20 vaccination

(known as Prevnar-20). This can be administered at your office visit or with a booked appointment with our nurse.

Influenza and COVID-19 Vaccination:

The seasonal influenza vaccine is available at your ActiveCare Clinic.

Patients over the age of 6 months are eligible for vaccination. Adults aged 65 and over are eligible for the High-Dose 65+ formulation. You influenza vaccine can be

administered at your routine visit or pre-booked on Friday afternoons during our

dedicated Flu Shot Clinic. Please note Flu Shot Clinic is NOT a walk-in service, and will be subject to vaccine availability.

Please also note that Pharmacies are also able to administer influenza vaccines to

patients over the age of 2.

While COVID-19 vaccinations are not administered at ActiveCare Clinic locations, we would like to remind all patients that COVID-19 vaccinations are available at many pharmacies.
